Character ideas

The vast majority of characters on cereal boxes all follow similar connotations and styles, bright and bold colours along with a friendly looking cartoon.

I started out by drawing animal based characters because i felt these were easier to do and i think that cartoon animals appeal more to young children.

If I’m honest i found this task quite challenging because drawing free hand isn’t one of my strong points but once i got into a bit of a creative flow i quite enjoyed it.

Moving on from my thumbnails i picked out this design because i felt it was the the strongest of the bunch, it looks friendly and i think it could work well on a cereal box.

Creating a cereal box character

In our first lesson back with Jason from the term break we given the task of designing and creating a cartoon character that would be put onto a cereal box aimed at little children.

Eventually we would produce mock-ups of our final design for the cereal box. First of all started by doing a little bit of research into current and previous kids cereal boxes to get a good idea of the style that has been used. This helped me a lot with the character ideas, colours and placement.
