Type Sheets & Layouts

For our first lesson with Nick we worked with Typography. We looked at numerous typography artists and typefaces for inspiration and then we set about designing and creating our own.

Typeface Grid

We were given the task to think of a quote under 16 characters which we could base our own typeface around.

Typography examples

After looking at some other artists examples of typography and different typefaces i came up with my quote i wanted to base my type around. I’m not the best at typography but it is something i enjoy, i decided to use the quote ‘This type is ok’ just because i didn’t think my type would be anything spectacular.

Typegace 1

This was the first typeface i created and i will happily admit its not my best work but I’m also quite happy about that because it helped me realise what didn’t work. What i think ruined this type was the bold shapes just didn’t work with the thin lines in this way, it made the type look wobbly and un-even.

Typeface 2

This is the second typeface i created and i think this one turned out much better, instead of thick shapes i used really thin lines, side by side and on top of each other. I wanted to create a modern looking typeface so i used a ruler to draw perfectly straight lines.
